Migration Institute of Australia – WA Members’ Mentoring Meeting // 22 February 2016

Migration Institute of Australia – Case Law Update Webinar // 24 February 2016

In this webinar, Lester will look at some of the important recent migration law cases which impact on a migration adviser’s everyday practice. The cases in particular will cover the following:

  • 457 visa appeals and Ahmad’s case;
  • de facto partners: do they need to have lived together? Do they even need to be in love?
  • the use of ANZSCO and the “closely-related” occupation question;
  • the Medical Officer of the Commonwealth’s opinion: how valid is it?
  • the questions a Member asks at a Tribunal hearing. How specific should the questions be?
  • PIC 4020 and the applicant’s knowledge;
  • family violence evidence;
  • what happens when policy is broader than the Regulations?

Note: much of the material is based on a similar webinar delivered in November 2015.
